Kimelo <> QuickBooks Desktop overview
Kimelo integrates with QuickBooks Desktop (QBD) through QuickBooks Web Connector (QBWC). It is an infrastructure developed by Intuit to connect QBD with web services like Kimelo by allowing installation of different plugins distributed as config files. Once a Kimelo config file is loaded to QBWC it will regularly connect QBD to Kimelo and exchange data about customers, orders, prices etc. to power the Kimelo e-commerce experience. Each connection is initiated from QBWC - it can be done either automatically or manually. This page will walk you through a few simple steps needed to set up and maintain the integration. If for any reason you’d like to learn more about QBWC please refer to Intuit’s help center.
QBD is a locally-deployed software meaning it is installed directly on an individual computer, not in the cloud. In other words, there is no server running 24/7 that the QBD data is stored on. Even if QBD is installed on a remote machine like a virtual desktop (e.g. through Rightworks) those are commonly turned off when they are not opened by any user.
QBWC can exchange data with Kimelo only when the machine it is installed on is turned on and both QBD and QBWC are both running. When the QBD & QBWC is turned on all data accumulated by Kimelo (e.g. orders placed by customers) when QBD was not accessible will be updated to its latest state. It is recommended that sellers using QBD keep the QBWC always running when their machine is turned on (even if not using QBD).
